The FTMSAQ is the professional organisation which represents full-time senior medical officers (SMOs) employed by Queensland Health. Most SMOs work in Queensland public hospitals but some work in public health, community health centres and in central office of Q Health.

The term 'senior medical officer' covers medical specialists, career-grade senior medical practitioners and medical superintendents. In the past, the medical superintendents set up their own organisation which is not affiliated with the FTMSAQ.
