|
The FTMSAQ is the professional organisation which represents full-time senior medical officers (SMOs) employed by Queensland Health. Most SMOs work in Queensland public hospitals but some work in public health, community health centres and in central office of Q Health. The term 'senior medical officer' covers medical specialists, career-grade senior medical practitioners and medical superintendents. In the past, the medical superintendents set up their own organisation which is not affiliated with the FTMSAQ. The services that FTMSAQ provides to its members include individual advice and support about employment by Queensland Health, and representation on various committees and working parties which advise Queensland Health and the unions which represent SMOs. The FTMSAQ is NOT a union or any other type of registered industrial body. There are 2 unions that SMOs may join, namely the: Queensland Public Sector Union (QPSU), and Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation Queensland (ASMOFQ). Members are advised to be a member of one of these 2 unions in addition to membership of the FTMSAQ. The current executive of the FTMSAQ is:
